Prenuptial Agreements

A Prenuptial Agreement is a written contract entered into by parties in contemplation of marriage or civil partnership by which they agree in advance what should happen to their financial assets on divorce, separation, divorce, or death.

An Agreement can provide for all manner of eventualities. For example, it can protect or ‘ring-fence’ existing assets and provide for the sharing of assets and payment of maintenance on termination of the relationship. In many ways, it is an advanced Separation Agreement.

A Prenuptial Agreement is desirable where one party wishes to protect pre-owned property from a future claim, or, simply where both parties want to avoid a future dispute.

Such agreements are not solely for the wealthy and are available to clients in all walks of life. They can be particularly helpful for couples marrying later in life or for a second time.
